Acne is one of the skin conditions that most people can relate to. Probably the majority have dealt with acne at some point in their life, and it isn’t charming. Acne is a term that is commonly used for pimples or zits that occurs when oil, bacteria, or dead skin cells clog hair follicles. People with oily skin may be more susceptible to pimples because of their skin type, but breaking bad habits can still help them or everyone else. If you have been battling with acne for quite some time, you might consider yourself a pro at dealing with breakouts. However, there may be part of your routine that is causing you to break out more.
Trying a new acne treatment every week or so can irritate your skin leading to breakouts. You would want to use an acne treatment for 6-8 weeks, giving it time to work. Yes, it takes that long to see an improvement. If you don’t see any improvement by then, you can try another product and expect improvement that generally takes about 3-4 months. Keeping your skin clean is the basis for a good skincare routine and help prevent acne. However, overdoing it can irritate your skin and cause more breakouts. Wash your face twice a day and more after finishing an activity that makes you sweat.
Applying Acne medication only to your blemishes makes sense to treat what you see, but this approach fails to prevent a new breakout. To prevent new blemishes, spread a thin layer of the acne medication evenly over your acne-prone skin. ven if the makeup products you use are labeled as non-comedogenic, sharing makeup can lead to blemishes. Although acne is not contagious, when you share makeup and applicators, the oil, bacteria, dead skin cells can be transferred to your skin, leading to clogged pores and, later on, causing acne.
Skin with acne is oily, so it can be tempting to apply astringent and acne treatment until your face feels dry. It can be tempting, though, but don’t. Dry skin is irritated skin. Anytime you irritate your skin, you are more prone to getting acne. Use acne treatment as directed by your dermatologist. If your skin feels dry, apply a moisturizer that is specifically made for acne-prone skin. Also, avoid using astringents, alcohol, and anything you can see to dry out your skin.
